More Than 20 Apps That Pay You To Exercise
‘If you click on my affiliates/advertisers links, I am going to receive a tiny commission. AND… Most of the time, you will receive an offer. Win/Win! The products that I advertise are the ones I believe in.’
I don’t know about you, but I struggle to get motivated to go to the gym, even though I have a membership. So, when I came across apps that pay you to exercise I got pretty excited.
Most of these don’t pay much individually, but if you install a bunch of them, you can double count your mileage. If you use any of these, write us and share your experience with them.
WeWard
This was my first app to pay me to walk. It’s fun and engaging because you get to compete with other walkers and move up to new levels as you walk more. And who doesn’t like a cute panda bear as the mascot? Don’t forget to convert your walk miles everyday to avoid losing them. Sign up for WeWard and enter my code (MotivatingToucan7578) to get started.
I just do the walking but you can play games and do other activities to earn extra XP. The minimum cash out is 500 XP which equals $5. They have a diversity of gift cards and send cash to venmo or pypal without any additional fees. You can also get paid coins for referrals, so invite your friends and outwalk them!
WeWard lets you exchange your steps for points (called Wards). For example, 1,500 steps can be converted to 1 Ward, 3,000 steps will bag you 3 Wards, all the way up to 25 Wards for 20,000 steps. Your steps are reset daily, so don't forget to convert them.
There are extra ways to earn Wards – take a survey, refer a friend, watch a video or take part in walking challenges.
The Wards can be exchanged for a variety of things, including discount vouchers, physical prizes, cash through bank transfers and donations to charities.

As an Evidation member, you can also participate in optional surveys and health studies. These are great opportunities to earn extra rewards while contributing to important healthcare research.
The Evidation app connects with over a dozen fitness and health platforms, making it easy to track your activities. For every 10,000 points you earn, you’ll receive $10 (redeemable via PayPal, gift card, prepaid Visa card, direct deposit, or donation to a charitable cause).
Takes a couple months at least depending on how much you walk. Achievement offers paypal, but it will take months to save up enough for that, no matter how active you are.
3. DietBet
DietBet takes a more community-focused approach, creating shared weight-loss challenges where participants contribute to a common pool. Those who achieve their goals — typically losing 4 percent of body weight in four weeks — share in the rewards. Cancel any time during the first 7 days for a full refund.
DietBet has various challenges based on your weight loss goals: Kickstarter (4% of your body weight in 4 weeks), Transformer (10% of your body weight in 6 months), and Maintainer (keep the weight off for 12 months).
Reach your weight loss goals by making a pledge! You'll be part of a supportive community and receive customer service from real people. Play games hosted by experts, including pro fitness trainers, nutritionists and wellness gurus. Find motivation when you need it the most.
The platform’s active community forums and group discussions provide valuable support, while shorter challenge cycles create more frequent goal-setting opportunities.
4. HealthyWage
HealthyWage takes an interesting approach to weight-loss motivation — letting you set personal goals and back them with your own investment. You can choose your target weight loss and timeline, and the app calculates potential earnings based on challenge parameters.
The app calculates your earnings based on your specific challenge parameters, and you can win cash if you hit your goal by the end of the designated period. This model proves particularly effective for those who respond well to having “skin in the game.”
Why not enjoy your weight loss journey with a fitness accountability app that pays you to achieve your health objectives? With HealthyWage, you can participate in various challenges, both individually and as part of a team, with the opportunity to win cash prizes!
Teams of five can win up to $10,000, or you can opt to compete on your own in pursuit of personal jackpots and individual challenges. Either way, your potential winnings could be significant if you reach your goals! It’s great for corporate wellness programs too. They’ve administered company-wide initiatives at more than thirty of the Fortune 500, dozens of large public employers, and hundreds of smaller organizations.
One of the most engaging features of HealthyWage is the app’s prize calculator. By inputting your current stats, desired weight, ideal timeframe, and monthly wager, you’ll receive an estimate of your potential winnings should you meet your goal!
5. StepBet
StepBet creates personalized walking challenges based on your actual activity patterns. Rather than applying one-size-fits-all goals, the app analyzes your typical movement patterns to set realistic but challenging targets.
If you meet your goals throughout the challenge, you win back your initial bet, plus a share of proceeds from the challenge pool.
StepBet (developed by the creators of DietBet) is a fitness accountability app that lets you place monetary bets on your ability to meet personalized step goals.
With StepBet, you sync your preferred fitness tracker and the app analyzes your activity history to set customized daily step goals tailored to your current fitness level.
After you connect your activity tracker, they'll use your step history to calculate personalized Active and Power goals that are manageable but challenging for your level. In some versions of the game, goals may incrementally increase week after week.
Bet amounts can vary from game to game, but most bets are $40. Generally, they don't have free games, because having money on the line is an important and powerful motivator.
Each game spans six weeks, beginning with a one-week “warm-up” period. This is essentially a grace period, allowing you to familiarize yourself with the tracking process and ensure your device syncs correctly.
StepBet currently supports the following activity trackers:
Garmin Trackers
iPhone Apple Health via phone
iPhone Apple Watch
iPhone Fitbit
Android Fitbit
Android Google Health Connect (serves as a bridge for multiple devices, such as Samsung Health, to communicate with StepBet)
Android Google Fit (will be deprecated soon by Google)
Currently, the only wearable devices that are directly supported are Apple Watch, Garmin, and Fitbit. However, with Google Health Connect, users of various Android devices, including those using Samsung Health, can connect and share their step tracking data with StepBet by using it as a bridge.
6. Paceline
Paceline takes a quality-over-quantity approach, focusing on sustained activity rather than simple step counting. The app tracks time spent with an elevated heart rate — aiming for 150 minutes weekly of meaningful physical activity. This approach encourages quality movement over simple step counting, offering rewards like cash back and gift cards for meeting weekly targets.
Pairs with Apple Watch, Garmin, and Fitbit (more fitness trackers coming soon). Only available for iPhone.
Weekly goals are based on the American Heart Association's recommendation for 150+ minutes of exercise a week.
7. Runtopia
Runtopia app rewards various cardio activities, including running, walking and cycling. Your efforts earn Sports Coins, which you can exchange for practical items or cash through PayPal. For full access to the Rewards Store, ensure your dog is microchipped as it is a legal requirement in the UK. Tell all the dog parents renting your yard for doggie play dates.

11. Dick’s Sporting Goods Move Program
As a Dick’s Sporting Goods ScoreCard member (free to join), you can earn three ScoreCard points every day by achieving one of your daily activity goals. Your progress can be logged through the MOVE fitness tracker on the Dick’s Sporting Goods mobile app.
You can earn 3 ScoreCard points daily by achieving one of the following daily activity goals as reported by your third-party fitness device manufacturer to our fitness tracker:
If you reach at least 10,000 steps
If you reach at least 3 miles
If you complete at least 30 minutes of fitness activity
Points are subject to a daily maximum of 3 points per ScoreCard account. You must reach your goal in one (1) calendar day in order to receive your points. The next calendar day, your activity will reset back to zero (0).
Dick's Sporting Goods app - 3000 steps a day gets you 3 points. Once you get 300, you get $10 to use at their stores or on their website. Unfortunately they expire before you can get another 300 points, but at least it's a good inexpensive gift or at least a $10 discount on whatever you want to buy there.
Just sync your favorite fitness tracker and complete one of these daily activity goals to earn your points:
Reach at least 10,000 steps
Complete at least 3 miles
Log at least 30 minutes of activity with a fitness app or device linked to MOVE
The DSG app now offers real-time syncing and personalized activity streaks to keep you motivated! Once you earn 300 points, you’ll automatically receive a $10 gift card via email or through the app (redeemable online or in-store).
Not only will you earn cash to spend at DSG, but you can also use the app when shopping online or in-store to earn even more points. While you won’t be earning actual cash through this program, those Dick’s gift cards will certainly come in handy now that you’re enjoying a more active lifestyle!
12. Charity Miles
While the Charity Miles app doesn’t pay you to work out, it turns each step you take into a donation for a worthy cause. Unlike other workout accountability apps that pay you to exercise, there’s no buy-in required to earn donations from Charity Miles.
Just download the app, select your desired charity, and get moving!
No matter how you move, you’ll earn money for the charity you choose with each mile completed. Earn sponsorships from your friends, employer and your charity's sponsors. Raise awareness and tell yourself a story about what really matters.
Charity Miles isn't an app for making money for yourself, but it instead lets you raise money for your favourite charities by moving. Whether that's walking, running, dancing, riding your bike or something else.
Simply select your charity when you sign up for the app, and for every mile you move, the app's corporate sponsorship pool will donate some cash. Better still, your friends and family can sponsor you too.
You might not be making money for yourself, but you can feel good about the fact that your exercise is helping those in need!
WoofTrax is another great way to exercise for charity, and you can do so for free just by walking your dog around the block or going for a hike. Woof Trax supports thousands of local animal charities in all 50 states, so you and your pup can make a difference right in the community where you live!
13. Sweatcoin
The Sweatcoin app lets you collect 'Sweatcoins' that can then be exchanged for real-life rewards in the app. Compete in challenges, collect badges, and join a community of movers that turn their steps into gadgets, digital subscriptions, travel vouchers, or even crypto.
You earn 0.95 Sweatcoins for every 1,000 steps you take (roughly half a mile). Plus, for 20 minutes a day, you can earn double.
Donate steps to charities like Save the Children or UNICEF. You can then use your coins to get discounts and sometimes free stuff from the app's store. However, you have to pay shipping which basically the cost of the item itself. You can find their rewards for cheaper on sites like amazon and ebay most of the time. Sadly the monthly fee is too high to offset the rewards you can get.
14. Macadam

Macadam is another highly rated app that pays you for every step you take. You can either keep the cash, select gifts through the app or donate to your favorite charities.
Every step earns you 'coins', our virtual currency, which you can convert into real money and spend with our partners or transfer directly to your bank account.
Macadam also lets you answer surveys and take part in daily challenges to earn additional points. For example, you can bag an extra 300 points for completing at least 20,000 steps.
15. BetterPoints
BetterPoints is similar to Sweatcoin in that you collect points for exercising – in this case, walking, running or cycling. BetterPoints Ltd is a purpose-driven, B Corp Certified company that is pioneering behaviour change technology for better transport, climate and health. In 2023, BetterPoints programmes achieved an average 24 per cent reduction in short car journeys across nine trials.
Sadly this app has gone downhill and has trouble tracking movement and is a bit glitchy.
You can earn both BetterPoints and BetterTickets. BetterPoints can be collected and redeemed as vouchers at various high street stores, while BetterTickets enter you into a draw to win a bumper amount of BetterPoints.
Share your activities on Facebook and Twitter to earn more BetterPoints. Give your BetterPoints to your favourite charity or cause, globally or locally.
To start earning, you simply head to the app and sign up for a programme. For instance, one of their Rewards programmes celebrates users for ditching their car and travelling through another method, with a possibility of winning 5,000 BetterPoints.
At the time of writing, you can exchange your BetterPoints for rewards including a £2 Argos gift card for 2,000 BetterPoints, a £5 Currys gift card for 5,000 BetterPoints, and a £10 Ikea gift card for 10,000 BetterPoints.

You can also complete 'missions' which can earn you well over 1,000 coins a pop for taking surveys and doing other simple tasks.
Note: Using VPN or multiple accounts may result in account suspension.
17. CashWalk

It takes about two weeks to save up for a $5 gift card, which is by far the fastest out of any of these. Coins can be redeemed for gift cards from various retailers or converted to real cash through platforms like PayPal or Coinbase.
By inviting your friends through our referral program (just set up and share your referral code for them to join), you are getting the equivalent of 5% of whatever amounts they cash out as points directly in your account.
